Today was Lizzie's 100th day of school. She has been excited all week long. Last week, we made her a shirt for the big day. On Monday, she came home with her homework assignment for the week: "Bring in a collection of 100 items displayed in a unique way." Unfortunately, in her mind, the shirt wasn't good enough. So we brainstormed some different items she could bring to school. We finally decided to bring in 100 hair accessories.
We borrowed a Barbie head and spent Wednesday afternoon fitting 47 clips on her hair. Lizzie had so much fun doing the hair and choosing where all the clips should go. The girls have been really into "doing hair" lately, so this was a dream come true.

On Thursday afternoon, I glued some ribbon strips on a poster board and she filled them up with 49 more clips, bows and flowers. For a finishing touch, she wanted to add four bows on the corners.

She was thrilled on Friday morning when she could finally wear her "100" shirt. She ripped off her nightgown and put on the shirt. "Hey Mom, do I have any jeans with 100 pockets?" she asked.

Of course, it was raining today. So we wrapped the head in a grocery bag and found a big trash bag for the poster. We made it to school without getting soaked and the festivities began. They had the fifth graders come in and partner up with the kids. Together, they clapped 100 times, bounced a ball 100 times, skipped 100 times, walked 100 steps around the circle, and hopped 10 times on each foot, counting by 10's. When they finished their list, they took a picture with their 100 collection and their "Big Buddy." Finally, they worked on a "100" packet together. Lizzie said her partner was a boy and that he was nice.
They ended the afternoon by making a "100 necklace" with cereal for beads and handing out awards for kids with 100 days perfect attendance, kids who brought in a collection, etc. They all had a really fun day and it totally lived up to Lizzie's expectations.

Wahoo for the 100th day!! Tanner sure loved his too (it was over a week ago) Such fun stuff! I love her shirt and super love the hair accessories. That was a fun thing to do. I think the 100th day is SO COOL! Fun stuff
Sounds fun! Any excuse for a special day right?
Weston:
Have a good day at school Lizzie! I liked the 100 story where they did a hundred skips and a hundred claps.
Weston also really liked the picture of the barbie head. That was a good idea doing the hair accessories. :) Good luck with the rest of the school year!
I love the poster and hairclips on the Barbie head. Lizzie looks so happy that she could almost burst!! Teaming up with the fifth graders and making it a special day sounds so fun. That is one of the advantages of having a K-6 school!
Memories, memories! The 100th day was always one of my favorites. In six years I never had a little one come in with a specially-made shirt though. What a mom!
