Naval Air Base Ventura, located at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme, is the largest employer in Ventura County. Port Hueneme is one of the two main bases for the Sea Bee's, the navy's construction battalions. It has been interesting and enlightening to get to know some of these military families over the past few years and share a small part of their burden as spouses, fathers and mothers are deployed or gone for training. It is a sacrifice and we're grateful for their service and the service of all our military personnel and families.

A Real American Hero
Today, while in line for our hot dog combo at Costco, Rachel was chatting to the guy behind us in line. I wasn't paying too much attention until she turned around and said to me, "He look like G-Jy-Joe!" Sure enough, the man was in his fatigues. I said, "Yes, he does look like GI Joe, but he's a real American hero."

That "real" American hero bit of G.I. Joe was always silly to me. I'm glad that Rachel was able to meet a REAL real one!
(Incidentally, my daughters occasionally run around chanting "Cobra Commander!" Thank, hubby.)
Thank, Jim for teaching Rachel about GI Joe's and American Heroes!! Good time to notice them too!
