It was a little overcast when we got there and we actually got rained on a bit. Not enough to pull out our ponchos that we had purchased just in case, but enough to get us wet. But it passed over us and then the weather was beautiful the rest of the day! The whole area around there is flat jungle of medium sized vegetation because there is only about 20 inches of soil before you hit limestone. They used the limestone and made their mortar of all kinds of stuff. The acoustics were really good too, so they could speak to the people and be heard. They also think this city was used as a trading post along the coast.
After the tour, we drove to a different hotel owned by the same company where we ate lunch and then had time to swim. After swimming, laying out to dry, and then getting soaked in a five minute thunder/shower, Jim beat me quickly at a large sized game of chess. We got home around 5pm or so. We were pretty hot and tired. After a quick shower, we went downstairs for dinner and ended up eating at the outside restaurant which quickly became our favorite. Again, we were right on the ocean, the food was excellent, it wasn't crowded and felt small and personal. And it was just cool.

The water is so bright, light blue. Was is warm or cold? The ruins are great. Such a wonderful experience. I'm glad the place was so nice!
Gorgeous! Those iguanas everywhere are kind of creepy, but Weston would think they are awesome. I love the Mexican GPS comment too. Funny.
Did you run into Lemhi, the LDS tour guide? When we were in Tulum we did our tour with our guide and then when we were wondering around another guide came up to us and asked us if we were LDS, I guess my short length and the fact that I had sleeves gave us away. He gave us his schpeel about how it was a Nephite temple. We didn't really believe his version of events, but we did buy a plaque of the "tree of life" mural at Chechen Itza from him. Tulum is a great ruin! Glad you had fun!

@Karen- We did run into the LDS tour guide. We had heard there was one and were kind of on the look out. Jim was very interested in the Stella #5 and he had a copy, but it was numbered with all the different things referring to the BofM and Lehi's vision, etc. We didn't really go for all of that either, but Jim wanted a copy for a conversation piece. We found one elsewhere that was just a plain engraving.
The water is so clear! The Mexican GPS comment cracked me up. Sounds like your day was a good mix of adventure and relaxation :)
I'm so happy you guys did this! Sounds so fun!
