Kindergarten Field Day

Friday was Lizzie's "Field Day" at school. She has been talking about it all week. It's the last day before spring break and they have been talking about healthy habits, eating, etc. They sent home a notice with a list of the activities and letting us know that she was in the blue group. They also came in the morning, so both kindergarten classes did it together. So she wore her blue and I managed to get her there by 8am (barely). Then I went home to finish getting everyone else ready. When I came back to help, they were in full swing!

They had already done the jump rope station and were at the basketball station. Since they had two hoops, they told the kids to go three on each side. Without being told, the girls went to one side and the boys went to the other. They were having a really hard time getting it in the hoop, so they finally brought the "ball box" forward and they did better shooting into that. I had to take a minute and show Lizzie how to use her knees to get the ball high enough and then where to put her hands to get it far enough.

Behind her in the blue sweatshirt is her teacher, Mr. Shields and the morning teacher, Mrs. Daily. They are such a fun pair of teachers! The next station was the bean bag toss where Lizzie promptly beaned her partner in the face. So we remembered how to through underhand and also how to have our hands out and ready to catch. It was fun to see the kids improve. They also got to do hula hoop at this station. (Hilarious!)
The next station was chalk art. It kind of gave them a little breather. Each kid had a rectangle to make a picture in. Lizzie also framed her's.
Dad, Mimi and Rachel got there in time to watch Lizzie draw her picture and eat a snack. The kids all had a snack and water break while the big kids at the school had recess. Mimi and Rachel also got in on some of the snack action.
After snack time, we went to the "track" station. They stretched a little bit first (which Rachel also tried to do...so funny.) Then they ran to the cone and back and then they tried to beat their first time. They also got to run a lap around the track, which wore them all out.
Next was the soccer shoot out. Lizzie actually did pretty well and managed to not only score some goals on her blocker, but also blocked a lot too! I'm not really sure what she's doing in the second picture, but she sure had fun.
After soccer, we went over to one of the playgrounds and ran it like an obstacle course. Once Lizzie knew the path, she just kept going. I was impressed with how she just did everything without complaint or hesitation. Finally, we headed over to the tricycle track for a few rides. Now, at the beginning of the school year, Lizzie would come home with huge band-aids from falling off the trikes or getting run over for going too slow, but now she rides like a pro!
It was such a fun day for the whole class. The teachers did a great job organizing and there were so many parents to help that the day ran really smooth. Hopefully, the kids will have a little more of a clue when they participate with the whole school for field day later this year!!

So fun! I love all the action shots. Way to pull out the camera. Lizzie is just such a big girl! Hope you are all set for Spring Break and that you have much better weather than we had. :) Looks like it turned out sunny for field day though.

Lizzie did a great job!! It was probably a most entertaining day for you. Maybe she has some soccer skills that we don't know about??? Hmmm!? Time will tell.
