Rachel's Birthday Party

We had a combined birthday party for Rachel (who turns 2 on Sunday) and our neighbor's daughter, Gem (who turns 3 on Wednesday). It was great because Tyler and Tara ended up putting most (read: all) of it together. I provided paper goods, drinks and a birthday girl. It was our family, the Ross family and the Springer family. We started by making edible necklaces with all kinds of yummy goodies.
When the necklaces were done, we headed outside for some bubbles. The Ross' found some great bubble wands and with the wind in our favor, even Rachel could make lots of bubbles herself. Everyone had fun making huge clusters of bubble that flew all over the place. The birthday girls had the most fun of all and had to be dragged away when they were sudsy.
After bubbles, we went back inside for a ring toss game. The girls tossed the ring and if it touched a prize, then they won it. Tara and Tyler also had goodie bags ready for the girls to put their prizes in.
Then we went into the kitchen to decorate cupcakes and sing "Happy Birthday". Rachel mostly just wanted to stab her cupcake repeatedly with the knife and Miriam was pretty thrilled to be handed a bowl of frosting and dug right in. But Rachel blew out both her candles with no help at all. She was so excited for that part.
After cupcakes, it was time for presents. We let Rachel open "Toy Story 2" from us. She was so excited to see Buzz and Woody and Jesse on the cover and kept asking Tara to turn it on. The Ross' gave her a Buzz Lightyear figure, which she hugged tightly and wouldn't let go of. And the Springer's gave her a fun new Ariel nightgown!
It was a great birthday party and Rachel had a lot of fun. By the time we got home, we were pretty wiped out. Luckily, we had a new movie to watch and relax in front of. Just before bed the Ross' came over and put Gem to bed with the big girls. Then we stayed up and watched the RiffTrax with "New Moon". So fun!

That sounds like a great party! And even better that you didn't have to do all (or any?) of the planning! :)

Rachel looks like she enjoyed her party and her presents. We love Toy Story around here too. It's always fun to get to hang out with friends too. I still need to check out RiffTrax!

I love the edible necklaces! They are so cute. The party looked so successful. You'll have to give my compliments to Tyler (and Tara). What are you going to do on the big day, Sunday for Rachel?
